Know more about Chinese Moon Festival to greet your Chinese partners or colleagues

It will be the Chinese Moon Festival on Sept. 15 2016 this year. So that you would say happy Moon Festival if you meet your Chinese friends or Chinese colleagues tomorrow, they will be surprised.

The Chinese have celebrated the harvest during the autumn full moon since the Shang Dynasty (c. 16th to 10th century BCE), theorizes that the harvest celebration originally began with worshiping Mountain Gods after the harvest was completed. the harvest time commemorated the dragon who brought rain for the crops. The celebration as a festival only started to gain popularity during the early Tang Dynasty (618–907 CE).

The festival was a time to enjoy the successful reaping of rice and wheat with food offerings made in honor of the moon. Today, it is still an occasion for outdoor reunions among friends and relatives to eat moon-cakes and watch the moon, a symbol of harmony and unity.

Making and sharing moon-cakes is one of the hallmark traditions of this festival. In Chinese culture, a round shape symbolizes completeness and reunion. Thus, the sharing and eating of round moon-cakes among family members during the week of the festival signify the completeness and unity of families.

The Border Business Club (http:// BBCWindsor.wix.com/BBCWindsor) will host a gathering in Windsor Ontario to celebrate the Chinese Moon Festival, as well as invite Mr. General Consul of Mexico to give a briefing about Mexican NAFTA and tourism.

Tip 4: Start up, Market west products in China- find a partner

You may need find a right partner before you start up your venture in China. I heard a lot of stories about inappropriate partners make trouble for business in China. To due diligences is important step, at the beginning, for instance, while you are seeking a manufacture partner, you may get 20 companies in the same industry to claim they are No. 1 or the best in the field, it is obviously not true, some of them maybe a distributor or wholesaler for the manufacture, especially those listed themselves on trade web sites you got attention, some of them are real manufactures with inappropriate management while you could conclude something while they provide some information about them, rest of the better or the best manufactures are most likely confidence to talk and discuss your technology or USP of your products, it means they are seeking a mutual benefit from such cooperation.

Register a company is getting easier and easier nowadays in China, most of registration for a business requests a minimum capital for registration at local business administration office, it is different from most of western countries where the registration bases on application. More and more business owners select private wholly owned company, or you may register as a joint venture with your local business partner. A little tricky thing is you are not ready to run your business after you get your business license, you have to register your tax license at tax administration office, some other necessary registration as well it is depending on your industry, it is quite conflicted process done by yourself, you are better to hire an agent to do it for you. You may get local government for help if your business investment over certain amount. Usually such procedure may take at least a week till a month to get your final all necessary documents. If you have a local business partner, they would solve the issue for you quicker through their relations.

Tip 3: USP, Market west products in China- IP

The USP of your products usually linked to be part of your IP, I know the situation of IP in China is always complained by western society; It is big topic and hardly discuss clear here. However from market perspective, to projection on IP is getting better and better in China. For instance, once you talked to Chinese businessmen who are looking for a new technology or unique products, they always asked for if you have owned the IP and registered, if the your IP registration covered China market, etc. If your partners in China also would like to understand clearly about IP before they go with you to discuss business deal, it means they want the IP protected by law too in order to gain more profit from it, so you are on same boat. But you have to keep your unique point is the unique somehow, rather than it is easier to be copied. For those it has a little tricky tech and easier to be copied products, you need plan a strategy before you sell it in China market. For example, One of my contacts used to ask me if they could sell their special pokers with a new game rules to China market, the product is printing poke only, the answer was, yes you could sell it, but you don’t expect you would be only one in the market sooner or later, because in case you are not successful selling your products well, no one wants to copy you, once you got volume sales, a lot of piracy might be full over the market because it is too easy being copied. In such case, your market strategy wouldn’t expect your product to be protected by registration, your plan may aim at sell volume with rapid distribution before those pirate stuff coming out in the market, then you have made enough profit already while others piracy are just starting to sell the product in the market.

Tip 3: USP, Market west products in China- USP translation

To promote and display your USP of your products in Chinese is also important when you are trying to get into the China market. Preparing perfect documents in Chinese becomes to be first task before you go to China. Many of my clients are hiring translation company to help out on language issue, I would say you need be carefully hiring on such translation, you’re gonna be better working a translation with who could understand about marketing language, rather than direct language translation of which are most of translation firms do. You need speak with your potential customers with their industrial terminology. Some of USP may not existing in the market, you could name it with an abbreviation which is also a way to promote your products once you repeat it many times. Remember when Ontario Canada based Wine organization wants to export local Ontario wines to China, a label of VQA (Vintners Quality Alliance) was strongly promoted in China market, nowadays people when they would shop wines imported from Canada, they always asked for VQA label, even when some people come to visit Canada purchase wine as gift for frends, they also look up VQA label. Non VQA labeled wine may get slower sales than those with VQA in China.

Tip 3: USP, Market west products in China- What is your Unique Sales Point on your products to China

‘USP’ stands for Unique Sale Point, it is very import define what USP on your products before you prepare to market it in China. It may be USP in western countries, but it may not be an USP in Chinese market. This is because the consumers’ behavior are total different from region to region in China. One of my clients, a watch company based on market research, the strategy of their new products launch campaign had been mapped by regions with different new products, it was for southern China with more sporty model, for middle east with white gold, for Northern China with yellow gold design.
